From an early age, I have had a keen interest in marketing.

As far back as my university days, I invested far more thought into Savage Promotions – a club promotion company that I started during my first year – than I ever did into my degree. For three years, I devised new concepts for club nights and promoted them throughout venues in Nottingham.  The most successful of which – SOMA – a regular Thursday night, brought in 800 punters every week.  Students lured by the promise of £1 pints, and big name House DJ’s – spread over 3 floors with a different offering on each. I wanted to create an experience, a feeling of Alice in Wonderland, and so it was no surprise that on my first flyer were the words: ‘Let the Looking Glass creatures, whatever they be, Come dance with the Red Queen, the White Queen, and me!’

Marketing is often about finding a point of difference.

With that in mind, when I arrived in Australia, with only two years industry experience and very few contacts, I realised that I had to do something to get people’s attention. Inspired by MASH and utilizing old VHS boxes, I hand delivered my ‘On Set Survival Kit’ to every production company in Sydney.  This comprised of a copy of my CV, a document detailing my ‘mission’, 1 x personalized pen on a rope, 1 x 10ml vial of ginseng and a 2” nail to open it!  All these years later it seems endearingly naive, but it worked, and I went from job to job working freelance with some of the best companies in the business, before taking a full time position as a producer at Flying Fish.

It’s all about contacts.

I have worked as an Executive Producer – at Plaza, Playbig, Velvet, Fish N Clips and Loaded Content; or as an in house Producer marketing my own directors – at EXIT and Flying Fish. In these roles, I have marketed directors to Creative Agencies in both Sydney and Melbourne, to all the major Record Labels, and more recently to Media, PR and Digital Agencies.
